Men’s Basketball Falls in MCCAC Semis to Bunker Hill

WORCESTER, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's basketball fell in the MCCAC State Semifinals to top seed Bunker Hill, 77-47, on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Quinsigamond CC.

The loss drops the Warriors to 13-11 on the season and are off until Wednesday, when they host the University of Connecticut at Avery Point at 6 PM in the NJCAA Region 21 quarterfinals.

Mike Ward (Brockton) paced the Massasoit offense with 14 points. Ian Wade of Brockton netted 11 points and Bryan Tavares (Rockland) added eight in the loss.

Massasoit fell behind 6-0 to start the game, but answered with a 15-1 run eight minutes into the game.

The game would square up at 23-all with 3:45 left in the opening half before Bunker Hill picked up the tempo to close out the period on a 14-1 run. The Bulldogs led 37-24 at the break.

Following intermission, Bunker Hill built off its momentum, outscoring the Warriors 10-2 in the first 3:29 of the second half to cruise the rest of the way.

The Warriors struggled from downtown, making only 3-of-19 attempts and committed 23 turnovers.

Bunker Hill (19-5) placed four players in double figures, topped by Taris Wilson Jr.'s 15 points. Zack Gatterau and Frantz Fancois each added 13.

The Bulldogs face the winner of Bristol and MassBay on Sunday at 2 PM.
