UCAP Posts Comeback Against Men’s Basketball, 72-65

GROTON, Conn. ---- Mike Ward (Brockton) led the Massasoit men's basketball team by pouring in a career-high 24 points, but a second half comeback by the University of Connecticut at Avery Point saw the Warriors on the short end of a 72-65 final.

Ward finished with a double-double, adding 10 rebounds to his point total and made 8-of-21 from the floor.

Jovani Harper-Lopez (Randolph) added a career-best 13 points and Bryan Tavares (Rockland) chipped in with 11 points off the bench.

UCAP (2-0) trailed 30-25 at the break, but outscored the Warriors (1-2) 47-35 after intermission.

Tysheen McCrea led the Pointers with 23 points, including making 15-of-21 at the free throw line. Will Orr added 16 points.

Neither team shot particularly well, Massasoit at 41.1 percent and UCAP at 37.1 percent, but the Pointers drained 7-of-12 shots from 3-point range. The Warriors made just 2-of-9 attempts from downtown.

Massasoit hosts Northern Essex on Tuesday at 6 PM at the Asiaf Field House.
