BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Freshman Jaylen Blakely (Brockton) stole a pass and converted a three-point-play with 21.8 seconds left to help seal a 76-74 victory against the visiting UCAP Pointers on Saturday.
A back-and-forth second half saw the Warriors (1-2) trailing 74-73 after a UCAP layup with 41 seconds left.
On the ensuing possession, Blakely missed a 3-pointer from the wing and it looked as though Massasoit would have to foul. However, Blakely raced in, stole a pass, was fouled and made a layup.
After converting the three-point-play, UCAP had one finally chance, but a 3-point shot was off the mark as the Warriors escaped with the two-point win.
Blakely finished with 12 points, all in the second half, along with nine rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
Leland Jackson (Atlanta, Ga.) led all scorers with a career-high 30 points, shooting 14-for-27 from the field. He added four boards and two steals to his stat line.
Colin Campbell (Holbrook) rounded out the Massasoit scorers in double figures, totaling 14 points and went 8-for-10 at the foul line. He also pulled down six rebounds and blocked three shots.
Danny Longmore (Bloomfield, Conn.) chipped in with a team-high 10 rebounds off the bench in the win for the Warriors.
UCAP finished with three players in double digits, led by William Orr's 16.
As a team the Pointers shot 57.1 percent from the floor (24-42) compared to 39 percent by the Warriors (30-for-77). UCAP also went to the line 37 times, making 24 attempts (64.9 percent).
