Press Jump Starts Men’s Basketball Comeback Victory

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and up-tempo press to earn a come-from-behind 56-51 victory over Springfield Tech on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 28-23 at the break, Massasoit (9-11, 8-11) put the pressure on the Rams in the second half. The change in tempo led to turnovers and easy baskets for Massasoit. In total, the Warriors collected 12 steals, six from Jaheel Moise (Brockton).

Down 35-32 the Warriors embarked on an 11-0 run, highlighted by six points from Moise, featuring a monster dunk by the Brockton native to take a 41-35 advantage with 9:21 left.

The Warriors held STCC scoreless from the 14:31 mark to 9:02 in the second half.

Leading 50-46, Moise hit a midrange jumper as the shot clock expired with 1:23 left, which proved to be the final dagger the Warriors would need in the victory.

Four Warriors reached double figures, led by Trey Jones' 14 points off the bench. Leland Jackson finished with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting with six boards.

Moise totaled 12 points, seven rebounds, six steals, three assists and three blocks, while William Baker added 10 points and five assists in the win.

Massasoit returns to the hardwood on Tuesday at Bunker Hill CC. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
