MBB Falls At MassBay To Close Out First Semester, 82-68

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. ---- Despite the third triple-double of the year from Jahleel Moise (Brockton) the Massasoit men's basketball team fell on the road at MassBay CC, 82-68, on Thursday night.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Warriors, as Massasoit ends the fall semester with a 5-6 record. The next game on the docket is set for Thursday, Jan. 8 at home vs. Bristol CC at 7 p.m.

Moise, the nation's leading shot blocker, swatted 11 on the night to go with 10 points and 12 rebounds. He now has five double-digit block performances on the season and is averaging an even nine swats per contest.

The Warriors fell behind by 22 at the break, 47-25, as MassBay exploded on an 18-2 run midway through the opening half.

"We shot poorly and (MassBay) could not miss in the first half," head coach Jim Stapleton said. "In the second half we played well and came back a bit but it was too late."

During the 16-point swing for the Buccaneers, the Warriors played without point guard William Baker, who sat out with an injury.

After intermission, the Warriors held control of the game, outscoring MassBay 43-35, but was unable to overcome the big first half deficit.

Trey Jones (Mattapan), the reigning NJCAA Division II Player of the Week, topped Massasoit with 14 points along with four assists and three steals.

Leland Jackson (Brockton) netted 13 with eight boards, and Jerome Penn Jr. (Boston) finished with 10 points, all in the second half.

Massasoit shot just 39.7 percent (27-for-68) from the field overall, while MassBay made 48.4 percent of its shots, including nine 3-pointers.
