Trey Jones Named National Player Of The Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ---- Massasoit men's basketball player Trey Jones (Mattapan) was announced as the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week, released by the national office on Wednesday.

Jones led Massasoit last week to a perfect 3-0 record, defeating CCRI, Bristol CC and Quinsigamond CC. For the week, the sophomore averaged 27.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 6.3 steals.

In addition, Jones was a sniper from the field, making 50 percent (27-of-54) of his shots for the week. He was even better from 3-point range, making 12-of-23 (52.2 percent) and only missed two free throws all week (17-of-19; 89.5 percent).

After scoring 24 points in a divisional game against CCRI, giving the Knights their first loss in Region XXI action, Jones poured in 29 on the road at Bristol. He closed out the week besting his career-high by netting 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting in a dominating win over Quinsigamond. Against the Wyverns, Jones dished out six assists and swiped a career-best nine steals in the victory.

After Jones' impressive week, he has moved into sixth place amongst NJCAA Division II players in scoring, averaging 23.9 per game. He also ranks fifth in steals (3.9) and sixth in assists (7.0) per game.
