Swarming Defense Surges Men’s Basketball To Victory

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's basketball team trailed by double figures in the first half, but an up-tempo pressure defense led to 31 steals as the Warriors defeated Quinsigamond CC 96-68 on Saturday.

Massasoit, which went 3-0 on the week, improved to 5-5 on the season.

The Warriors trailed 19-8 at the 10:48 mark in the first half, before exploding on a 15-1 run over the next three minutes to hold a 23-20 advantage.

Up 41-32 at the break, Massasoit's pressing defense gave the Wyverns all kinds of problems. The Warriors totaled 31 steals and put up 55 points in the second half to claim the victory.

Trey Jones (Mattapan) topped with the Warriors with a career-best 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting. The sophomore added nine steals and six assists, along with making five 3-pointers.

Leland Jackson (Brockton) was next in the scoring department, putting up 28, along with 14 rebounds for the double-double.

Jahleel Moise and William Baker, both of Brockton, also each recorded double-doubles in the win. Moise went for 16 points, 10 boards and seven blocks. Baker, who scored five points, swiped a team-high 13 steals and dished out 11 assists.

Massasoit returns to the hardwood on Thursday, with a road game at MassBay CC set for 7 p.m.
