UCAP Tops Men’s Basketball, 58-45

GROTON, Conn. ---- The Massasoit men's basketball team had difficulty finding the bottom of the net on Saturday, as the Warriors fell on the road to the University of Connecticut at Avery Point, 58-45.

Massasoit (1-2) produced a pair of scorers in double figures, led by Leland Jackson's (Brockton) 13 points, all coming in the second half. Jahleel Moise (Brockton) continued to fill up the box score, totaling 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting, with seven rebounds and seven blocks in a losing effort.

Jerome Penn Jr. (Boston) chipped in with nine points, making 7-of-10 free throws along with five rebounds.

The Warriors shot just 29.3 percent (12-of-41) from the floor, but did make 19-of-27 free throws (70.4 percent) to stay close in the second half.

UCAP placed three players with 10-plus points, led by Keith Porter who netted a game-high 24 points along with 11 boards.

Massasoit hosts its first home game on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Northern Essex.
