Trio Leading Men’s Hoops Early On

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's basketball team is off to a slow start at 2-4, but the three-headed monster on offense of Chris Green (Taunton/Bridgton Academy), Antonio Ferreira (Stoughton/Stoughton HS) and Trey Jones (Mattapan/Reading HS) has helped keep the team in ball games through the early part of the season.

Green (24.5), Ferreira (18.2) and Jones (17.3) combine to average an even 60 points per game for head coach Jim Stapleton's squad. As a team, Massasoit is putting up points, posting 88 per
contest, meaning that the trio is averaging an impressive 68.1 percent of the team's points.

For the season, Green has put up 20-plus points in five of six contests and shooting a blistering 42.2 percent from downtown. Green's point average tops all of Region XXI. Ferreira has posted four double-doubles and grabs 9.2 rebounds per game, while Jones is tied with a league-best
assist average of 6.5 per contest.

Even with a large portion of the points coming from the three previously stated, a couple other Warriors are starting to emerge.

Anthony Conway (Boston/Walpole HS) has started five of six games and averaging 10.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest. Colin Campbell (Holbrook/Holbrook HS) was an assist shy of a triple-double in a loss at CCRI and is averaging 5.7 points and 6.3 rebounds. Jashawn Houston
(Randolph/Randolph HS) is netting 6.7 points per game off the bench, while Nivaldo Gomes (Orlando, Fla./Freedom HS) is corralling 6.7 boards per game as a reserve.

Massasoit could easily have its overall record flip flopped and be 4-2 on the year. But, nail bitting losses to MassBay (106-105 OT) and Holyoke CC (82-79) have been the difference through six games this season.

If the Warriors can continue to receive strong performances out of their top three scorers and get contributions from other starters and reserves, Massasoit has a chance to turn things around in the second semester.
