Massasoit's Jim Pereira Named Hamptons League Commissioner

Press Release Courtsey of Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League

A head coach in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League last summer, Jim Pereira joined the front office this offseason, having been appointed the fourth commissioner in the league's history.

Pereira is in his second season as an assistant coach at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, MA. Prior stops on the collegiate circuit have included Curry College (2006-10) and Newbury (2017-18).

"We couldn't be more enthusiastic about welcoming Jim to the HCBL team," said league president Sandi Kruel. "Jim's experience on the diamond as well as his leadership, among other qualities, have already proven to be valuable commodities. We're looking forward to a great summer season with Jim installed a vital member of the league's executive board."

Pereira also has a wealth of experience in the summer baseball world, having spent four seasons as an assistant coach in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League with Bourne (2005) and Wareham (2006-07, 2011). Between those stints, he served as head coach of the Cal Ripken League's Rockville Express for two seasons.

"I have seen firsthand just how important summer ball can be for a player's development, not only on the field but off," Pereira said. "In addition to getting at-bats or innings so they return to school in the fall with more repetitions under their belts, players can see a new part of the world and meet teammates and community members who they may not have the opportunity otherwise to meet."

Pereira also brings with him a great deal of scouting expertise, having been a northeast scout for the Cincinnati Reds from 1991-2012.

Outside of baseball, Pereira was a special education teacher at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School in Fall River, MA. He also served as the department head, and coached varsity baseball and ice hockey.

Pereira joins former major leaguer Fred Cambria, Ben Bonaventura and Vincent Colasuonno among those who have served as HCBL commissioner.

"The HCBL has been an outstanding summer league option for college players for more than a decade, and I look forward to helping keep it on its upward trajectory," Pereira said. "I thank president Sandi Kruel and the league's constituents for giving me this opportunity."
