Baseball Faces Top-Seed CCRI in Region 21 Tourney, Thursday

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit baseball team will face top-seed CCRI on the road to begin the Region 21 Tournament on Thursday at 3:30 PM in Warwick, R.I.

The fourth-seeded Warriors (10-19, 6-9 R21) qualified for the tournament for the 37th consecutive season and will face the Knights (21-10, 12-1 R21) for the fourth time in 2019.

Massasoit hit .282 on the season, led by freshman Ian Nadeau (Brockton) who recorded a .378 batting average with eight extra-base hits and 25 RBI. Sophomore Jonathan O'Donnell (Hull) hit .325 with three homers and 25 RBI and Bobby Belezos of Holbrook posted a .317 batting average.

On the mound, Nadeau was a workhorse leading the team and Region 21 in innings pitched (46.2) and complete games (5). He finished with a 5-3 record and 47 strikeouts to just eight walks and a 4.29 ERA.

Francisco Navarro of Panama fanned 52 batters in 33 innings and earned three wins and James Sneyd of Scituate earned a pair of wins and 30 strikeouts in 31.2 innings.

CCRI was nearly perfect in league play, with its lone blemish coming at the start of regional play to Quinsigamond. The Knights are 13-2 over their last 15 games and won 12-straight against divisional opponents.

As a team, CCRI is hitting .334 with four regulars hitting north of .400 on the season.
