Northern Essex Bests Warrior Baseball in Doubleheader

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. ---- Jonathan O'Donnell (Hull) rocketed two homers and Aaryn Dias (Sharon) launched a grand slam, but the Northern Essex offense proved to be too much as the Knights won 18-10 and 16-4 on Friday.

Massasoit drops to 6-17 and 2-7 in league play, while NECC improves to 14-13 overall and 7-3 against league opponents.

Game 1: Northern Essex 18, Massasoit 10
Jonathan O'Donnell recorded his first career multi-homer game, but NECC jumped out early and held on for the game one victory.

NECC scored 10 times in the bottom of the first frame and built up a 14-0 lead after two innings thanks to four homers.

In the fourth, Massasoit made things interesting by batting around and scoring eight times in the frame. O'Donnell launched a homer and Dias connected on a grand slam during he scoring spree.

However, the Warriors could not get any closer, falling 18-10.

O'Donnell finished 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBI. Dias went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and Ian Nadeau of Brockton knocked in two in the loss.

Game 2: Northern Essex 16, Massasoit 4
Northern Essex used another quick start to earn the doubleheader sweep of the Warriors.

NECC scored three times in the first and scored multiple runs in every inning.

Josh Truehart of Brockton and Bobby Belezos of Holbrook each went 2-for-3 in the loss.

Massasoit returns to the diamond on Tuesday, hosting the University of Connecticut at Avery Point.
