BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit baseball team opened up regional action dropping both ends of a doubleheader to CCRI, 15-4 and 14-4, on Saturday at Columbo Field.
Massasoit falls to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in Region 21 play, while CCRI improves to 9-8 and 3-0 in the league.
The Warriors have a jam-packed with, slated for six games this week, starting with a road contest at UConn-Avery Point on Wednesday.
Game 1: CCRI 15, Massasoit 4
Jonathan O'Donnell (Hull) launched his first home run of the season, but CCRI scored in each of the first six innings to earn the victory.
O'Donnell's two-run blast game in the third and Richie Wood of Brockton ripped a two-run double in the first to account for the Warrior scoring. Bobby Belezos (Holbrook) went 2-for-2 at the dish.
Ian Nadeau (Brockton) was tagged with the loss, falling to 2-1 on the season. The righty went the first five frames, allowing four earned runs with five strikeouts.
A rarity happened for the Massasoit defense in the fourth inning, as O'Donnell and Luke DiTondo (Marshfield) combined on a 3-6 triple play.
Game 2: CCRI 14, Massasoit 4
CCRI led 4-3 entering the top of the fourth when the visiting Knights broke the game open with six runs to earn a 14-4 victory.
DiTondo went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI, while O'Donnell and David Logan (Dedham) each knocked in a run.
Francisco Navarro (1-3) suffered the loss, striking out seven in 3.1 innings of work. Navarro fanned four batters in the first inning.
