Four Warriors Earn Baseball All-Region Accolades

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- A total of four student-athletes on the 2018 Massasoit baseball team earned Region 21 postseason accolades, recently announced by the conference office. Luke DiTondo and Luis Ramirez earned spots on the first team and Nick Andrews and Luke Lewando were honorable mention selections for Massasoit that finished 17-13 on the season.

Luke DiTondo emerged as the ace of the Warriors staff in 2018. The righty made seven starts and posted a 2-1 record with a 3.56 ERA. The Marshfield native topped the team in innings pitched (43) and strikeouts (49) and held opponents to a .233 batting average, while only walking 17 batters. The righty went at least five innings in all seven of his starts and held opponents to three earned runs or less in six of them. DiTondo also saw time in the outfield, hitting .356 with 20 RBI.

Luis Ramirez manned second base for his second straight season for the Warriors. The Dominican Republic native hit .333 (35-for-105), led the team in walks (22) and placed second on the team in runs (34), hits (35), total bases (50) and was the only player to start all 30 games, joining double-player partner Nick Andrews.

Nick Andrews made the move to shortstop for his sophomore season and was an offensive force in the middle of the Warrior lineup. The Raynham native led the team in almost every offensive category, topping Massasoit in batting average (.360), hits (40), runs (41), doubles (11), extra-base hits (14), total bases (59), RBI (35) and slugging percentage (.532), while starting all 30 games. Andrews became the first Warrior to record 40-or-more hits and runs in a season since NJCAA All-American Travis Ritchie in 2014.

Luke Lewando also earned honorable mention, serving as the leadoff hitter and centerfielder for Massasoit in 2018. The gritty speedster hit .311, scoring 31 runs, knocked in 16 and totaled seven extra base hits. In the field, Lewando committed only one error, starting 28 of 30 games on the season. The lefty also saw time on the mound, making seven starts and logging 30 innings with 21 strikeouts.
