MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. ---- Massasoit's Luke Lewando (Brockton) fired five shutout innings in his first start of 2018, but Lehigh Carbon CC scored three times in the top of the seventh and pushed across a run in the ninth to claim a 4-3 victory.

Lewando went the first five frames, scattered three hits and fanned two as the southpaw did not figure in the decision.

The Warriors did all its damage offensively in their first trip to the plate. Lewando led off the game with a double and came around to score on a triple from fellow sophomore Luis Ramirez (Dedham). Later in the frame Luke DiTondo (Marshfield) and Aiden O'Neill (Halifax) ripped and RBI single and double to give Massasoit an early 3-0 cushion.

Massasoit would hold the 3-0 advantage all the way until the top of the seventh. In the frame, five straight base runners reach for the Cougars, accounting for three runs as the game eventually went to extra innings.

After neither team was able to muster up anything in the eighth, the Cougars led off the top of the ninth with a double and eventually scored on a sac fly with what proved to be the game-winner.

Offensively, Lewando and DiTondo each collected two hits and Noah Martin (Freetown) walked twice in the loss.
