BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Left-handed pitcher Jake Stearns (Plymouth) of the Massasoit baseball team was recently named the NJCAA Division III National Pitcher of the Week for tossing a perfect game vs. MassBay CC last Saturday.
The sophomore was perfect, literally, retiring all 21 batters he faced in the seven-inning, complete game 10-0 victory over the Buccaneers. Stearns fanned a career-high 13 to improve his record at the time to 2-1 on the season.
The lefty did not allow a ball to leave the infield, using seven ground outs and one pop up to go along with his career-high strikeout total. Stearns struck out at least two batters in five of seven frames, including the side in the sixth.
