BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit baseball team posted a 4-0 weekend, closing it out by sweeping NHTI by scores of 3-0 and 13-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Massasoit (6-10) swept MassBay and NHTI over the weekend and will return to the diamond on Thursday with a road trip to Holyoke CC.
Game 1: Massasoit 3, NHTI 0 – 7 Innings
Zack Reid (Dighton) fanned nine over 6.1 shutout innings as the Warriors claimed Game 1, 3-0.
Reid (1-3) worked in the seventh, allowing only three hits and four walks. The right-hander struck out one batter in five of his full six frames, which included punching out the side in the first.
In a scoreless tie entering the bottom of the third, Bryan Dwyer (Abington) knocked in Alex Carey (East Bridgewater), who had doubled earlier in the inning, with a two-out RBI single for the first run of the game.
Reid, who recorded one out in the seventh, was relieved by Scott Anderson (Hanover). The sophomore righty needed just five pitches to record the final two outs and earn the save.
Game 2: Massasoit 13, NHTI 2 – 5 Innings
The Massasoit lineup sent 15 batters to plate in the bottom of the first, 10 of which scored as the Warriors cruised to a 13-2 win.
The first inning explosion featured nine hits, as Tyler Morini (Plymouth) and Dylan Ashburn (Norton) each roped two in the frame. The backbreaking blow in the first came on a bases clearing triple off the bat of Alex Carey (East Bridgewater).
Carey finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three RBI. Kevin Huscher (Middleboro), Bryan Dwyer (Abington), Ashburn, Morini and Evan McSherry (Halifax) all roped two hits in the game. Huscher, Ashburn and Morini both added two RBI each.
Lost behind the monstrous first inning was the pitching of James Bussiere (Norwood). The freshman righty earned his first collegiate victory, allowing two earned runs off two hits to along with three walks and career-high nine strikeouts.
