Six-Run Seventh Inning Sinks Baseball

VERO BEACH, Fla. ---- The Academy Baseball of Canada (ABC) scored six times in the top of the seventh to knock off the Massasoit baseball team, 7-2, to close out the Spring Training Trip for the Warriors.

Massasoit finished the trip 2-8, winning two of its last three games.

Jake Stearns (0-2) was saddled with another tough loss on the hill for the Warriors. The lefty worked 6.2 innings, giving up seven runs, only two earned, off eight hits with five punch outs.

The Plymouth native cruised through the first five innings, facing only one over the minimum during that stretch as he sent down 15 of the first 16 batters he faced. The lone hiccup was a second inning walk.

Massasoit built a 2-0 lead scoring single runs in the second and fourth innings. Chris Langley (Holbrook) doubled and scored on a Jim Commesso (Monument Beach) base knock in the second. Two innings later, Commesso was hit by a pitch and came home on an ABC error.

In the sixth, ABC finally broke through on Stearns posting three-straight singles to plate its first run. Stearns buckled down and retired two batters with runners on second and third being stranded to escape the threat.

The seventh is where things went south for the Warriors. Clinging to a 2-1 lead, ABC batted around, scoring six runs off six hits and took advantage of two Massasoit miscues to claim the 7-2 victory.

Dave Murphy (Plymouth) led the Warriors going 2-for-4 at the plate.
