Nader Suffers Tough-Luck Loss To Ontario Baseball Club

VERO BEACH, Fla. ---- Freshman Mike Nader (Hollywood, Fla.) made an outstanding first start for the Massasoit baseball team, but the righty suffered a tough-luck loss to the Ontario Baseball Club, 2-0.

Things got off to a rocky start for Nader in his opening start, walking four batters in the opening inning. But the righty escaped allowing just one unearned run by use of an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.

From then on Nader was in control, retiring the side in order in both the second and third frames. In the fourth, the Blue Jays tacked on an insurance run thanks to an infield miscue by the Warriors.

After the first, Nader (0-1) did not face more than four batters in an inning the rest of the way. Nader allowed just three hits (all singles) and two runs (both unearned) to go along with five strikeouts in the loss.

On offense, Massasoit was led by sophomore Dave Murphy (Plymouth) who finished 2-for-3 with a double. Al Carey (East Bridgewater) reached base safely in all three-plate appearances, with a single, walk and was hit by a pitch out of the leadoff spot. Sean Manning (Avon) also doubled for the Warriors.

Massasoit had chances to score, but stranded six base runners and lined into two rally-killing double plays in the first and sixth innings.
