VERO BEACH, Fla. ---- Massasoit held an early 3-0 lead, but Kirkwood CC responded with a 12-run fourth inning, cruising to a 16-5 victory over the Warriors on Sunday.

Massasoit (0-5) plated three runs in the bottom of the third to break a scoreless tie with the Eagles (5-6). Five straight Warriors reached base, as Tom Protentis (Lakeville), Dave Murphy (Plymouth) and Sean Manning (Avon) each brought home a run in the inning.

The top of the fourth is where things unraveled for Massasoit. Lefty Sam Devine (Taunton) breezed through the first three innings, allowing only one base runner during that stretch and striking out four. In the fourth, the Eagles would touch home 12 times as the offensive outburst would be too much for the Warriors to overcome.

The Warriors did tack on two runs in the fifth, featuring a RBI single by Matt Levasseur (Milton).

Massasoit finished with a season-high 11 hits, including a three-hit day from Protentis. Levasseur added two hits in the loss.
