Massasoit Baseball Drops Season Opener To Parkland College, 11-2

VERO BEACH, Fla. ---- The Massasoit Community College baseball team dropped the 2015 season opener, falling to Parkland College, 11-2, at Holman Stadium inside the Historic Dodgertown Complex on Friday morning.

Massasoit struggled to keep the Cobras off the base paths, as Parkland recorded nine hits, drew 11 walks and was plunked three times by the Warrior pitching staff.

All those base runners led to runs as Parkland touched home at least once in each of the first five innings.

The Warriors notched their first run of the season, when Sean Manning (Avon) rocketed a RBI triple to plate Justin Martinho (Dighton) in the top of the sixth. Manning would later come home on a RBI ground out off the bat of Nick Oliveira (New Bedford).

Zack Reid of Dighton (0-1) was saddled with the loss for Massasoit, tossing the first two innings, giving up five earned runs with three strikeouts.

FRESH FACES: Massasoit featured seven newcomers in the starting lineup and nine total freshmen saw action in the season opener.

ERROR FREE BASEBALL: Despite the loss, Massasoit was able to play error free baseball playing for the first time outside in 2015.

TOO MANY FREEBIES: The Massasoit pitching staff totaled 11 walks and hit three batters, yielding 14 free base runners on Friday morning.
