Massasoit Adds Cross Country; Matt Jordan Named Head Coach

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- For the third time in just over a year, the Massasoit Athletics Department will add a new sport, as cross country will join the slate of sport opportunities for the Warriors this upcoming fall.

“We’ve had so much success in track and our numbers keep growing, it only made sense to add cross country in the fall,” Athletics Director Julie Mulvey said. “We are so thankful that President Dr. Charles Wall and the administration continues to support athletics in such a positive way.”

Matt Jordan, who concluded his first year as the men’s and women’s track and field coach at Massasoit, will head the men’s and women’s cross country teams in its inaugural season this upcoming fall.

“I’m looking forward to the addition of cross country to the Massasoit Athletics Department,” Jordan said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead the program in its first year and hope to build on the success of the 2015 outdoor track season.

“Hopefully we will have some of our track athletes participate in cross country and some new runners join. Cross country was one of my favorite sports to compete in, along with competitive swimming.”

The cross country schedule is still in the planning process for the Warriors, but expectations are for the team to compete in four to five meets this fall. The NJCAA Nationals, which all runners automatically qualify for, will be held at Westfield State College.

Massasoit will compete at the NJCAA Division III level in men’s and women’s cross country.
