Cappadona, Piragis Named NJCAA Student-Athlete Award Winners

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Massasoit’s Mike Cappadona (Foxboro) and Rokas Piragis (Brockton) were recently named NJCAA Student-Athlete Award recipients, announced by the national office.

Both Cappadona (3.82 GPA) and Piragis (3.93 GPA) were recognized as Superior Academic Achievement honorees for their excellence in the classroom.

Cappadona, the top golfer for the Warriors, qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament as Massasoit fielded a golf team for the first time since 2001. The Foxboro native averaged a team-best 85.5 per round and shot a team-low 80 back on April 14 at the New England Country Club.

In addition, Cappadona placed fourth overall at the Region XXI Championship and became the first Massasoit student-athlete to compete at the NJCAA National Tournament in program history.

Piragis not only hit the books in the classroom, but he rewrote the record books on the track. The sophomore set individual school records in the 400m (51.68) and 800m (2:10.90) races and was a part of the 4x400m record-setting relay team. The Brockton native was also one of four track athletes from Massasoit to compete at the 2015 NJCAA National Championship, placing 13th overall in the 400m race at Mohawk Valley CC in Utica, N.Y.

Piragis was also awarded the Massasoit Student-Athlete Award this past spring.
