Year: Fifth Season

Matt Jordan enters his fifth season as the Massasoit men’s and women’s track and field coach.

The 2016 campaign was a breakout year for the Warriors track program as nine student-athletes competed at the NJCAA Nationals held at Westfield State (Westfield, Mass.), totaling six USTFCCCA All-American honors.

Jordan coached freshman Kevin Baldwin to become Massasoit’s first-ever multi-All-American award winner, as the distance runner placed seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and eighth in the 10,000-meter run. Other 2016 All-Americans under Jordan’s watch included Aaron Prescott (discus), Tevon Springer (high jump), Mitch Vaughn (high jump) and Liam Brennan (110m hurdles).

For the women, Jordan’s freshman sprinter Karlyvelle Ladouceur set school records in the 100m, 200m and 400m races and fellow freshman Deja Houston topped school bests in the long jump and high jump. At the 2016 Regis Pride Classic, Ladouceur became the first Massasoit student-athlete to place first in an individual event.

In total, Massasoit set 19 school records in 2016, 14 on the men’s side, five on the women’s side. Jordan saw three relay records broken with both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams qualifying for Nationals.

Massasoit also finished the 2016 season ranked 15th in the final USTFCCCA NJCAA Division III rankings for both the men’s and women’s track programs.

In his first season as head coach, Jordan saw four student-athletes – Nick Vaughn (100m, 200m), Alex MacMillan (200m, javelin, high jump), Kerry O’Neil (5,000m) and Rokas Piragis (400m) – qualify for the 2015 NJCAA Track & Field National Championships held at Mohawk Valley CC in Utica, N.Y. MacMillan became the first Massasoit student-athlete to medal at Nationals, claiming fifth place in the javelin.

At the 2015 Regis Pride Classic, Jordan’s 4x100 relay team of Mitch Vaughn, Nick Vaughn, Jacob Hume and Alex MacMillan, claimed first place becoming the first team or individual to claim the best time/mark in an event in program lore.

Before coming to Massasoit, Jordan had been very involved in coaching swimming at both the high school and college ranks. He recently finished his second season as an assistant coach for the Bentley College swimming program.

Jordan attended Wheaton College and competed on the swim team for four seasons. At Wheaton, he set school records, which are still standing, in the 200 and 800 freestyle relay. In addition, since graduating Jordan has been involved in New England Master’s swimming and has broken several program records.

Prior to attending Wheaton College, Jordan produced an excellent high school career in both the pool and on the track. In track, Jordan was a four-year letterwinner, competing as sprinter and middle distance runner in the 100m, 200m and 400m races. In addition, he also ran cross-country in the fall while at Ellsworth High School.

Beyond his experience on land, in the water is where Jordan really excelled. He was a five-time Maine High School State Champion and Maine Swimmer of the Year as a senior in 2004.

Jordan graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History in 2008 from Wheaton College.
