BROCKTON, Mass. ---- On June 5, Massasoit Community College hosted its fourth annual Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Conference Center on the Brockton Campus.

The 2015 class featured: Sue Brady (Softball, 1994-95), Cheryl Condon (Women’s Basketball & Softball, 1975-77), Marie Forrest (Assistant to the Athletic Director, 1980-2012), Violetta Gladkowska (Volleyball, 1983-84), Jim Mann (Baseball, 1993-94), Flemming Petersen (Men’s Soccer, 1986-87), Mike Russo (Men’s Soccer Coach, 1974-78) and Mark Showan (Men’s Basketball, 1987-89).

It was an evening that featured great stories and laughs from the past. Below are some quotes from Athletics Director Julie Mulvey and Massasoit Vice President Bill Mitchell prior to the presenters and inductees speeches.

Julie Mulvey, Massasoit Athletics Director
“As the current Athletic Director at Massasoit, it thrills me to see so many past student-athletes and coaches to be recognized for their contributions to Massasoit and their communities.

“This induction ceremony has become a tradition at the college. A tradition that marks the excellence of our athletics program, the success of our student-athletes and coaches and the impact that our students and coaches have made on this college and the community.  The ceremony is a chance to not only honor you but to thank you for inspiring us, for being our ambassadors, for enriching our lives and for your loyalty and appreciation to the institution that we all love.”

Bill Mitchell, Massasoit Vice President
“Let me echo something that Julie said. Dr. (Charles) Wall, myself, other administrators, truly believe and support athletics.  We think it is a very important part to the well-rounded collegiate experience. We think it adds something to the college. When other colleges may have been reducing sports, or cutting athletic budgets, we have been increasing and supporting and we have added few new sports the past year. We’ve realized that having athletes on campus, having positive press is really important to Massasoit and what we do.”
