Records Keep Falling For Massasoit Track & Field

FITCHBURG, Mass. ---- The Massasoit Community College track and field team broke eight more school records at the Eric Loeschner Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State on Saturday.

The men's team totaled a program-best 10 points and finished tied for 13th overall out of the 22 schools that competed. The Warriors edged CCRI and Roxbury CC (eight points each) amongst junior colleges that took part in the meet.

A total of six individual school records were broken on the men's side, three by Alex MacMillan. The freshman from Brockton earned two top-10 finishes, placing eighth in the 200m (23.23) and 10th in the javelin (45.86m/150-5), while also placing 14th in the high jump (1.8m).

Also, the men's 4x100 relay inched closer to qualifying for NJCAA Nationals, placing fifth overall, clocking a school-best time of 45.66.

Rokas Piragis (Brockton) broke his own record in the 400m, winning his heat in a time of 53.39 and Mitch Vaughn (Kingston) set a new record in the long jump (5.26m). Nick Vaughn (Kingston), Mitch Vaughn and Adam Blanchette (Brockton) also became the first three Warriors to throw the shot put in program lore.

In addition, Nick Vaughn tallied the highest overall finish of any of the Warriors, placing fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.38.

On the women's side, Kerry O'Neil (Stoughton) placed ninth in the 5,000m race, clocking a season-best time of 22:38.53. Emely Abellard (Brockton) sprinted in the 100m (15.66) and 200m (34.09), improving her times in each event.
