BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Massasoit received two second half insurance goals from Anya Welch-Batstone (Avon) and goalie Katie Amado (Whitman) posted her second shutout of the week as the Warriors blanked Springfield Tech, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.

The win ups Massasoit's record to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.

In the opening stanza, Massasoit had plenty of opportunities but were unable to cash in. STCC keeper Vanessa Figueroa-Bermudez kept the Rams in the game, as she made eight of her 12 saves in the first half.

In the 34th minute, the Warriors finally broke the scoreless tie, as Samantha Baston (Carver) took a back pass from Brooke Newcomb (Whitman) and lofted a deep shot from outside the 18-yard box for the first goal of the game. The goal for Baston marked her team-high seventh of the season.

Clinging to the 1-0 lead late in the match, Massasoit moved Welch-Batstone from midfield to forward and the position change proved huge dividends for head coach Jim Stapleton.

Welch-Batstone took a through ball and laced it home in the 82nd minute and added another goal on a breakaway in the 85th, both from Newcomb, as the Warriors earned the 3-0 victory.

Newcomb finished with assists on all three goals for the Warriors.

Massasoit outshot STCC 23-9 for the contest and finished with nine corner kicks to just four by the Rams.

In net, Amado made three saves for her second clean sheet of the week and third overall for the season.

The Warriors return to the pitch on Tuesday, with a road contest at Bunker Hill slated for 4 PM.
