Women’s Soccer Drops 3-2 Contest to Springfield Tech

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Springfield Tech rallied in the second half to knock off the Massasoit women's soccer team, 3-2, on Saturday at Warrior Field.

With the loss, the Warriors dropped to 4-8-1 overall and earned the No. 3 seed in the NJCAA Region 21 Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. Massasoit will face No. 2 seed Springfield Tech on Friday at 2PM with the match being held at Holyoke CC.

STCC (4-4-1) notched the first goal of the contest, when Ariella Wanzo buried a shot in the 22nd minute of action.

The Warriors responded quickly, when Kathy Remick (Norton) rocketed goals in the 25th and 27th minutes as Massasoit held a 2-1 lead at halftime. Leah Kowlski (Whitman) and Alexandra Santos (Hanson) were credited with assists on Remick's goals.

In the second half, Wanzo struck again for the visiting Rams in the 57th minute to even up the score, 2-2.

The contest remained tied until STCC's Julia Talbot scored in the 72nd minute for what proved to be the game winner.

The Rams outshot Massasoit 22-12 and goalie Laura Nieske (Watertown) made a career-high 13 saves for the Warriors.

Friday's contest will mark the third meeting of the season with the two schools, which features a 1-1 tie and 3-2 STCC victory so far this season.
