BROCKTON, Mass. ---- In the final game of the regular season, the Massasoit women's soccer team flexed its muscles to the tune of a 8-0 victory over Springfield Tech on Saturday at Warrior Field.

Massasoit (9-6, 7-4 Region XXI) is off until Saturday, Oct. 25, with a rematch against rival Holyoke CC for the Region XXI Championship in Holyoke, Mass.

The Warriors fired off plenty of shots, but couldn't hit the back of the net until the 20th minute when Kayla Gomes (Halifax) scored on a breakaway from teammate Gina Nutting (Rockland).

Zhandali Fontes (Taunton) scored off a rebound, Gomes and Shauna Fitzpatrick (Whitman) all netted goals in the opening stanza to hold a dominant 4-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, Fitzpatrick added a goal, as did Fontes, while Haley Wells (Whitman) chipped in with two of her own.

In total, Gomes, Fontes, Fitzpatrick and Wells all finished with two goals in the win.

Laura Ellis (Raynham) and Cinthia Pires (Brockton) split time in goal for the team shutout.

Massasoit fired off a total of 53 shots in the game, including 30 in the first half.

NEXT UP: Massasoit will face Holyoke in consecutive seasons for the Region XXI Championship. The Warriors fell to the Cougars 2-0 during the 2013 campaign. The match is slated for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 in Holyoke, Mass.
