Late Comeback Fall Short For Women’s Soccer At Dean College, 3-2

FRANKLIN, Mass. ---- The Massasoit Community College women's soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit, but fell short on the road to Dean College 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Warriors dropped to 4-3-0 overall on the season. The next game for Massasoit is on Monday at 4 p.m. at Bunker Hill CC.

"We fought hard all game, luck just wasn't on our side today," head coach Ruben Teixeira said. "Melanie (Thompson) hit the post twice, once in each half."

Massasoit fell behind quickly as the Bulldogs found the back of the net in the first 30 seconds of the game. Dean College would tack on another goal in the 15th minute to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

However, the Warriors would not quit, as Melanie Thompson (Middleborough, Mass.) netted her first of two goals on the day off a pass from Clarissa Goddard (Whitman, Mass.) in the 20th minute of action.

The contest went to intermission with Dean clinging to the one-goal lead.

Thompson would tie up the score at 2-2 in the game's 65th minute, on an assist by Ashley Andrade (Randolph, Mass.). It was marked the eighth goal of the season for Thompson.

Unfortunately, Dean would find the back of the net one more time, scoring in the 83rd minute to earn the victory.

"Overall it was a good game and I'm proud of the team's work ethic in the second half. In the future we need to try and play a hard and complete game, not in just one half," Teixeira said.
