Women’s Basketball Ranked No. 1 in NJCAA Division III Poll

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit women's basketball program was selected as the new No. 1 team in the most recent NJCAA Division III Poll, announced by the national office on Tuesday.

It marks the first time in the history of women's sports at Massasoit that the Warriors are ranked No. 1 in a national poll.

"Being ranked No. 1 in mid-season can be a blessing and a curse," head coach Mark Leszczyk said. "It's a testament to the hard work and determination of our players, staff and administration.

"But it also puts a target on our back every time we hit the floor. How our kids respond to the national recognition is what Coach (Kassy) Ayanbeku and myself will be looking for. I'm thrilled for the team, school and community and we hope to build on this success."

Massasoit (10-0) entered last week ranked No. 4 in the nation and went on to earn a pair of road victories at then No. 7 UConn-Avery Point and Quinsigamond.

The perfect 10-0 record marks the best start to a season in program history.

The Warriors close out the semester by hosting Gateway CC on Thursday and travel to Springfield Tech on Saturday.
