Women’s Basketball Earns No. 4 Ranking in NJCAA Division III Poll

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- In the first regular season poll of the 2018-19 season, the Massasoit women's basketball program earned the No. 4 overall ranking in the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Poll, announced on Wednesday.

Massasoit has steamrolled the competition under first-year head coach Mark Leszczyk to the tune of a perfect 9-0 record, after defeating No. 7 UConn-Avery Point 93-60 on the road on Tuesday.

The Warriors are one of only three undefeated programs that appear in the top-10 rankings or receiving votes, joining Brookdale CC (7-0) and Hibbing CC (6-0).

Wednesday's poll marks the first time Massasoit has been ranked since the final poll of the 2013-14 season, when the Warriors were ranked No. 8 and advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time in program history.

The 9-0 start marks the best start to the season since the 1997-98 team that began the year 5-0 before finishing 20-4 overall.

Nationally, the Warriors rank fourth in scoring, pouring in 85.3 points per contest and have reached the century club three times on the season.

The Warriors return to the hardwood on Saturday with a road contest at Quinsigamond.
