GROTON, Connecticut ---- The fourth-ranked Massasoit women's basketball team earned a dominant 93-60 road victory at No. 7 UConn-Avery Point on Tuesday night.
Massasoit upped its overall record to 9-0 on the season while the Pointers dropped to 6-2 overall.
The Warriors featured a balanced attack, spearheaded by the three-headed post presence of Shania Osborne, Nina Robinson and Destanee Morales. The trio combined for 59 points and 37 rebounds.
Robinson and Osborne each posted double-doubles, netting 22 points apiece, while Morales chipped in with 15 in the victory.
Shania Shorter handled much of the point guard duties on Tuesday, scored 16 points, featuring four 3-pointers.
"Shania Shorter stepped in at point guard for Ky'Jae (Hargrove) who was battling illness and did a helluva job for us," head coach Mark Leszczyk said. "Our inside game was working well for us with Destanee (Morales), Shania (Osborne) and Nina (Robinson). We played three bigs a lot.
"We also had outstanding defense from Lyric (Fortune) and Alyson (Reid). We were a team full of stars tonight and everyone did their job," Leszczyk said.
Massasoit led 42-32 at the break, before outstanding the home Pointers 51-28 in the second half.
The Warriors are off until Saturday when they travel to Quinsigamond.
