Women’s Basketball Puts No. 3 Roxbury On The Brink, Runs Out Of Gas

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Through three and half quarters, the Massasoit women's basketball team hung right with the No. 3-ranked Roxbury Tigers, but the Warriors ran out of steam, falling in the Region 21 Semifinals, 79-63.

The Warriors conclude the season at 11-11, while top-seed Roxbury (22-2) advances the region championship to face Gateway on Sunday at 12 PM.

Massasoit trailed Roxbury, the nation's top scoring team (95.2 ppg), 36-30 at the break. Sophomores Tati Dias and Geornaisha Silva-Moore, both from Brockton combined for 22 of the Warriors' points.

In the third quarter, the Warriors kept hanging around, pulling within a single point, 51-50, but were unable to every take the lead over the Tigers. Roxbury led 57-51 through three quarters of action.

In the fourth, Massasoit would get as close as four, midway through the fourth, but Roxbury made its free throws and outscored the Warriors 22-12 in the final period.

Silva-Moore led Massasoit with 21 points. Dias netted 18 on the day and Monica Knight (Halifax) chipped in with 12 in the loss.

Roxbury's Gianni Hill led five players in double figures with 20 points.
