Slow First Half Costs Women's Basketball at Gateway, 82-56

NEW HAVEN, Conn. —— The Massasoit women's basketball team started off slow and could not recover, falling on the road to Gateway CC, 82-56, on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops the Warriors to 7-6 on the season and will travel to Dean College on Monday for a 6 PM tipoff.

"We started off way too slow and dug ourselves in a huge hole before we made the right adjustments to compete," head coach Colie Trawick said. "It was just a lack of effort. We did outscore Gateway in the second half and today was definitely a game we can learn from."

Massasoit trailed the Lions 42-15 at the half, after only mustering up five points in the second quarter.

Monica Knight (Halifax) topped the Warriors in the scoring department, netting 18 on 8-of-11 shooting. Geornaisha Silva-Moore was right behind her with 13 points, featuring three 3s. Silva-Moore added eight boards and six steals in the loss.

Gateway featured a balanced scoring attack, with all five starters scoring 15 or more points. Tiarrah Thompson paced the Lions with a game-high 20.
