Taryn Johnson Selected As Region 21 Women’s Basketball Coach Of The Year

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- In her second year leading the Massasoit women's basketball team, Taryn Johnson saw an eight-win improvement to earn the 2015-16 Region 21 Women's Basketball Coach of the Year award voted on by the league coaches.

Johnson's team finished with nine wins, 9-14 overall, after winning just one game in her inaugural season in 2014-15. The Warriors also went 7-5 against Region 21 divisional opponents and finished runners up in the Massachusetts Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) Tournament and regular season standings.

Massasoit also qualified for the Region 21 Tournament, earning the No. 4 seed, falling to eventual champion Roxbury in the semifinals.

On January 30, the Warriors captured their biggest win in the Johnson era. Massasoit defeated then No. 7 ranked Gateway, 69-68, at home, avenging a 30-point loss from earlier in the season to the Lions.

The Warriors also saw an increase on the offensive side of the court, averaged 65.3 points per game, an over 27-point increase from a season ago.

In addition, Massasoit swept the season series against divisional foes Bunker Hill, Quinsigamond and Holyoke.
