Balanced Attack Gives Women’s Basketball 84-22 Win At Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. ---- The Massasoit women's basketball team raced out to a 31-8 lead in the first quarter and placed four players in double figures to cage the Holyoke Cougars, 84-22 on Saturday.

Natascha Elias (Brockton) poured in 15 of her team-high 26 points in the opening quarter as the Warriors went on to improve to 5-9 on the season. Elias finished 11 of 21 from the floor, including 4-of-9 from downtown and added seven steals.

"We had the momentum at the start of the game in our man-to-man defense," head coach Taryn Johnson said. "We were able to jump the passing lanes and get out and run against them. We had some strong showings up and down the roster."

Laura Malley (Halifax) produced a personal-best performance at Holyoke, setting career-highs in points (13), rebounds (18) and blocks (5).

Tatiana Dias (Brockton) was second on the team in the scoring department, netting 20 and dished out eight assists and tallied three steals.

The Warriors led 42-14 at the break and outscored the Cougars 20-0 in the third.

Cynthia Laing (Boston) added 14 for the Warriors, and Geornaisha Silva-Moore (Brockton) chipped in with nine points, six steals and four assists.
