Women’s Basketball Gives Back During Holiday Season

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit women's basketball team was able to give back to the community during the Holiday season in mid-December, volunteering at a local Salvation Army in Brockton.

Head coach Taryn Johnson, assistant coach Zeyanna DeFortunato and the team spent time dividing up donated items for gift packages and bags for less fortunate families.

"There were so many donations of high quality toys, clothes and other gifts," Johnson said. "We were so happy to be able to help out the Salvation Army. They have quite the system in place there. We felt like the elves putting together the packages and James (Cox), the Salvation Army director, was Santa telling us where stuff needed to go."

The Warriors spent several hours separating all the locally donated gifts for specific families, based on number of children, age and gender. Coach Johnson and her team felt overwhelmed with being able to be involved with such a great charity.

"Coach Z set it all up with the Salvation Army. It was a very fulfilling event that we did as a team, working together to do something good for others. It was beautiful seeing all the donated items and we were glad to be a part of the process," Johnson said.
