Women’s Basketball Heating Up

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- After starting the season 0-3, the Massasoit women's basketball team has caught fire recently, winning its last three games to own an even record of 3-3.

The three victories have come against Springfield College JV, Bunker Hill CC and Holyoke CC.

During the recent hot streak, the Warriors have been putting up points, averaging over 71 per game, compared to just 57.6 in their three losses to start the season.

Ashley Andrade (Randolph/Randolph HS) has stepped up her game recently, averaging 17 points per contest during the win streak. In the last two games, Andrade has poured in 24 and 22 points, respectively, both team highs in each victory. 

Overall, the Warriors have showcased a very balanced attack as seven players are averaging six or more points per game. For the season, Massasoit is scoring 64.5 points on
average. 

Leading the offensive attack is Fredi Lawson (Boston/J.E. Burke HS), pouring in 16 points a contest, followed by Andrade (13.5), Marina Palladino (Carver/Carver HS) at 9.8, Cynara Rustin (Brockton/ Minutemen Regional) at 8.3, Tiana McQueen (Mattapan/ Boston English) at 7.2 and Tianna Johnson (Brockton/New Mission HS) and Karissa Pagan (Brockton/Brockton HS) each averaging an even 6 ppg.

Not only has the offense flexed its muscle recently, scoring 85 and 78 points in the last two games, but the defense has shown up as well, forcing a total of 46 turnovers during that stretch. 

In their most recent victory over Holyoke CC, the Warriors caused 32 turnovers and snagged 22 steals, both season highs for the defense.

The Warriors have two more home games slated for the remainder of the semester, vs. Roxbury (12/12) and vs. Quinsigamond CC (12/14).
