Athletics Director Julie Mulvey Inducted Into UMass Hall Of Fame

AMHERST, Mass. ---- Massasoit Com- munity College Athletics Director Julie Mulvey was officially inducted into the University of Massachusetts Athletics Hall of Fame at a ceremony during a Minutemen men's basketball game on Sunday, January 26.

Mulvey, a former All-American wom- en's basketball player for the Minutemen, joined five other inductees that were honored at halftime inside the Mullins Center.

"It is a great honor and extremely humbling to be selected into the UMass Hall of Fame," Mulvey said. "My memorable experiences both in the classroom and on the court gave me the knowledge to help student-athletes today. At Massasoit I have the opportunity to impact a young person's life in a positive way and I thank UMass for building that foundation for me."

From 1978-81, then Julie Ready, played center for the UMass, where she helped the Minutemen post one of its most successful win totals (60) in program history during her tenure. Mulvey still ranks in the top-10 in a number of statistical categories at UMass and holds the top career field goal percentage (.545).

Mulvey finished her outstanding career at UMass ranked eighth on the all-time scoring list, totaling 1,406 career points and averaged 20.7 ppg her senior campaign.

During Mulvey's final year at UMass, she garnered All-American and All- Region accolades and was later invited to compete for a spot on the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team. A stress fracture caused her not to attend the tryout and the games were later boycotted by then President Carter due to the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan.

She still has her name stamped in the UMass record books, ranking 2nd in points per game (16.5), 3rd in rebounds (831), 3rd in rebounds per game (9.8), and 6th in field goals (615). Among single season rankings, she still holds the No. 1 rankings for field goal percentage (.565, 1979) and field goals (244, 1981). She is No. 2 all-time in points (581, 1981), points per game (20.7, 1981), and No. 4 in rebounds (292, 1979) and rebounds per game (11.7, 1979).

Mulvey coached both basketball and volleyball at Massasoit prior to holding the position of Director of Student Life from 1995-2008. In 2008, Mulvey was named Athletics Director and has held the position for the last six years.
