Massasoit Women's Basketball Falls At Naval Prep, 71-55

NEWPORT, R.I. ---- Ashley Andrade (Randolph/Randolph HS) and Fredi Lawson (Boston/Burke HS) each netted a team-high 14 points, but the Naval Prep Academy pulled away in the second half to defeat the Massasoit women's basketball team, 71-55, on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Warriors dropped to 0-2 on the young season.

"We really need to get back in the gym and practice," second year head coach Mark Brathwaite said. "Right now we have no chemistry out on the court."

Despite the lack of consistency that Brathwaite was looking for defensively, Massasoit was able to hang close with Naval Prep in the first half, only trailing by six points at intermission.

However in the second half, the home squad opened it up and led by as much as 20. A late run pulled the Warriors within single digits late in the contest, but could get no closer than nine points, falling by the final score of 71-55.

"Defensively we are not moving our feet and we are not doing the little things we need to do to win games," Brathwaite said. "Offensively, we don't have a problem scoring, we just missed a lot of shots. I think that will change once we start to play together as a unit and not play so rusty."

Others that contributed offensively, included newcomer Tiana McQueen and Marina Palladino (Carver/Carver HS) with eight points a piece, Cynara Rustin (Brockton/Minutemen Regional) put in nine points and Tianna Johnson (Brockton/New Mission HS) finished with 12 assists at point guard.
