Massasoit's Fredi Lawson Named NJCAA Division III Player Of The Week


BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Fredi Lawson (Boston/J.E. Burke HS) was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Player of the Week for averaging 27 points per game and leading the Massasoit CC women's basketball team to a pair of victories from December 9-15.

Lawson was a force at the power forward position for the Warriors, which earned victories at Bristol CC and home against Roxbury CC last week. She posted double-doubles and led Massasoit in scoring for both games.

The 5-foot-7 sophomore poured in a team-high 29 points on 13-of-19 shooting along with 13 rebounds, six steals and five assists in a 104-78 win at Bristol.

Two days later against Roxbury, Lawson was a key component in the Warriors upsetting the visiting Tigers, 74-68. She poured in a game-high 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting and made 8-of-10 at the foul line. Lawson added 11 rebounds as Massasoit snapped Roxbury's regular season league game win streak at 84 consecutive games.

For the week, Lawson averaged 27 points, 12 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game and shot 63.6 percent from the floor.

Lawson is the first women's basketball player from Region XXI to earn a NJCAA Player of the Week honor this season.
