Massasoit Women's Hoops Holds Off Springfield College JV, 51-47


BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Clinging to a two-point lead in the final 10 seconds, Tianna Johnson (Brockton/New Mission HS) recorded her 12th steal of the night and banked in a layup as the Massasoit women's basketball team defeated the Springfield College JV squad, 51-47 on Monday night.

The win for the Warriors marked their first of the season and now sit at 1-3 overall.

To go along with her 12 steals, six coming in each half, Johnson added nine points, seven assists, four blocks and four assists to her impressive stat line.

Fredi Lawson (Boston/J.E.Burke HS) produced a strong second half, scoring nine of her 10 points after intermission. She also finished with a team-high 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Marina Palladino (Carver/Carver HS) recorded team-high honors in points, charting 13 on the night, including a pair of 3-pointers. Tiana McQueen (Brockton/Boston English HS) added six points and nine boards.

Massasoit led throughout the first half and took a slim 25-22 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Pride would not go away quietly, eventually taking a 34-33 lead at the 11-minute mark of the second half off a free throw by Leah Cooper.

The Warriors would respond, as Lawson converted a 3-point play to own a 39-36 advantage with 8:30 left and Massasoit would hold the lead the rest of the way.

Johnson's steal and layup iced the game as the Warriors held on for a four-point victory.
