BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit Community College softball team fell behind 5-0 in the first inning of game one, but rallied to outscore Quinsigamond 23-2 the rest of day en route to sweeping a doubleheader on Sunday.

Massasoit won game one 13-7 and followed with a 10-0 game two shutout. The two victories give the Warriors five in a row and an overall record of 6-4 on the season.

"After that first half inning and giving up five runs, I said to the team, that half inning is over," head coach Sandy Lombardi said. "My concern was how were we going to respond. Were we going to put our heads in the sand or fight back…and we fought back and outscored them the rest of the way."

Amanda Young (Randolph) was a star at the plate for the Warriors, finishing the day 5-for-6 with five runs scored and eight RBI. Marina Palladino (Carver) went 4-for-5 at the dish and pitcher Taylor Richards (Walpole) did her job at the batter's box knocking in five runs.

In the circle, Richards (6-4) picked up two more complete-game victories. In 12 innings on the mound, the righty finished with 12 strikeouts, including eight in game one.

"This is a very resilient group. If they are down early they always find a way to fight back," Lombardi said.

The Warriors return to the diamond on Tuesday, as they host rival Dean College in a doubleheader slated to start at 3 p.m.

Game 1: Massasoit 13, Quinsigamond 7
The Warriors fell behind early, 5-0, in the top of the first, but responded scoring multiple runs in the first four innings to claim game one, 13-7.

Young clubbed her first homer of the season, ending the game a single shy of the cycle. She went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI.

Alex Pohl (Middleboro) rocketed three hits, featuring two doubles, scored three times and knocked in two more. Palladino chipped in with two hits and three runs scored.

Game 2: Massasoit 10, Quinsigamond 0 (5 innings)
The Warriors batted around in the third inning, scoring six times to fuel a 10-0 mercy rule victory to sweep the doubleheader.

Richards fired a shutout, yielding only three hits to go along with four strikeouts. She did not walk a batter.

Offensively, Young went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI. Richards added two hits and knocked in three, while Palladino scored three times and clubbed a pair of hits in the victory.
