Baldwin Qualifies For NJCAA Nationals; Bastia Breaks School Triple Jump Record at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ---- Kevin Baldwin qualified for the NJCAA Nationals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Hansen Bastia (Brockton) broke his own school record in the triple jump to highlight Massasoit's track & field performances at the Sean Collier Invitational held at MIT on Saturday.

Baldwin will make his second trip to Nationals, which are held at Mohawk Valley CC in Utica, N.Y. from May 10-12, clocking a 3,000-meter steeplechase school record time of 10:40.82. The sophomore clipped nearly 20 seconds off his own school record in the event, finishing sixth overall.

Bastia took third overall in the triple jump, leaping a school-best 12.76 meters. The Brockton native, nearly qualified for Nationals, missing the cut by just 0.04 meters in the event. Not only did it mark a school record in the event, but marked the best individual finish in the triple jump in program history.

Lorenzo Espinoza of Stoughton also put forth a strong performance in the triple jump. The freshman joined Bastia in the finals, earning sixth place overall with a jump of 12.14 meters.

Another top-10 performance by Massasoit was showcased in the 4x400 meter relay, as Baldwin, Espinoza, Brandon Calley (Bridgewater) and Jerry Dixon placed sixth with a time of 3:49.49.

The Warriors close out their season next weekend, competing in the Yale Springtime Invitational on Sunday.
