DARTMOUTH, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's track & field team started the 2018 campaign by finishing sixth overall at the Corsair Classic on the campus of UMass Dartmouth, by posting a school record 30 points on Saturday.

Not only did the 30 points set a new best mark for the Warriors, the sixth place finish also set a new record, breaking Massasoit's effort of 29 points for seventh place at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State back in 2016.

Individually, the Warriors posted six top-10 finishes and also placed third overall in the 4x100-meter relay.

"Despite some cold, windy weather, I thought our guys posted some good times and jumps today," fourth year head coach Matt Jordan said. "It was amazing we were able to finish sixth and set a school record in points with only seven guys competing today. After today, the team is really excited for our next meet with plenty of National cuts within striking distance."

Leading the charge was freshman Hansen Bastia of Brockton. In his first collegiate meet, Bastia took third in the triple-jump, leaping a distance of 12.12 meters and placing ninth in the long jump (5.53m).

Fellow freshman Brandon Calley of Bridgewater also snagged a third place finish, clocking a 1:02.63 in the 400-meter hurdles.

Other top-10 finishes included Kevin Baldwin in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (5th; 11:32.15), Jerry Dixon in the triple-jump (6th; 10.99m) and Brockton's Eddy Fong in the 110m high hurdles (8th; 17.54).

Next up for the Warriors is a meet at SNHU next Saturday.
