BROCKTON, Mass. ---- A total of five student-athletes from the Massasoit men's outdoor track & field team were named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2016 All-Americans recently announced by the league office.
"I am so proud of all the hard work and dedication these student-athletes put into this season," head coach Matt Jordan said. "Last year we had one All-American (Alex MacMillan) so I'm thrilled to see five new names added to that list. There's no doubt that our track and field program is trending in the right direction. I am already looking forward to next season!"
At the NJCAA Division III National Championship held at Westfield State, Massasoit finished with a school record six individual top-8 finishes.
Kevin Baldwin (San Jose, Calif.) headlined the award winners, as the long distance runner became Massasoit's first-ever multi-All-American honoree. The freshman placed seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase and eighth in the 10,000m race, setting school records in both events at Nationals.
Joining Baldwin was Liam Brennan (Middleboro) in the 110m high hurdles, claiming sixth at Nationals in a Massasoit best-time of 16.07, nearly a full second faster than his previous record.
In the throwing events, Aaron Prescott (Carver) took home seventh in the discus toss. The freshman launched a throw of 35.74m, marking a new school record.
In addition, Massasoit posted two individuals in the top-8 of the high jump at the NJCAA Nationals in Mitch Vaughn (Kingston) and Tevon Springer (Sharon). Vaughn leaped his way to sixth place with a height of 1.85m, while Springer placed eighth at 1.80m
In just the third year of existence, the Massasoit track & field team continues to rack up the records and awards. Entering the 2016, the Warriors only had one USTFCCCA All-American in program history, Alex MacMillan, who placed fifth in the javelin at the 2015 National Championship.
