USTFCCCA National Rankings

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the National Computer Rankings for the NJCAA Division III teams and individuals on Wednesday with Massasoit men’s (18th) and women’s (20th) teams cracking the top-20.

“These ranking are a great way to see how we stack up against other junior colleges across the country,” head coach Matt Jordan said. “At our first meet at Fitchburg State, we were the only junior college there and we were very competitive. It is exciting to see how the student-athletes will improve moving forward.”

The Warriors did not appear in the national rankings in Week 1, as both teams had not competed yet in 2015. The rankings for Week 2 placed Massasoit’s men’s team 18th overall, totaling 54.54 points, while the women earned 20th placed with 16.64 points.

The national ranking formula consists of a point system that awards a score to each top-50 time/distance per week in each individual and team event. First place earns 30 points all the way to 50th place (0.01) in individual events. The team point totals are calculated each week, including new times/distances. An individual can only appear once in the computer rankings per event.

Alex MacMillan (Brockton) earned the highest ranking on the men’s side, at eighth place in javelin distance thrown. MacMillan, who also qualified for the NJCAA Nationals and set the Massasoit school record in the event, tossed the javelin 43.76 meters in the team’s opening meet.

On the women’s side, Kerry O’Neil (Stoughton) earned a spot in the nation’s top-10, claiming ninth in the 5000-meter race rankings. O’Neil, who competed at the NJCAA Nationals in 2014, finished the 5k in 23:05.40.

The third top-10 performance by Massasoit came in the 4x100 relay. The foursome of Adam Conte (Halifax), MacMillan, Mitch Vaughn (Kingston) and Nick Vaughn (Kingston) sits ninth at 46.02.

Nick Vaughn, who placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.59) at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State, placed 14th on the National Computer Rankings list.

The next meet for Massasoit is on Saturday at Smith College.
