BROCKTON, Mass. ---- On a foggy afternoon, the Massasoit men's soccer team shut out the visiting CCRI Knights, 5-0, in Region 21 action at Warrior Field on Tuesday.

The ever-important-win between the two schools, gives Massasoit a 2-4 record and the upper 1-0 hand in the season series with CCRI (2-3, 0-1 R21).

Massasoit would strike first in the 11th minute of action when Brockton's Maldini Da Fonseca crossed a ball into the box where Brazilian Leon Zaffonato was there to finish for the early 1-0 lead.

"I thought we came out ready to play," head coach Rui Estrela said. "The kids knew what was at stake today against CCRI, a big regional opponent. We knew how big this game was, it being at home and getting up 1-0 (in the series) on them.

"I thought we executed really well. We possessed for most of the game. We put away our chances. We had a couple more that we missed but overall it was a good performance. It was a big turnaround from last game (vs ASA) and hopefully we can build off this and move forward and continue in the win column."

Da Fonseca was not done their as he scored in the 32nd minute off a through ball pass from Deandre Armstrong (Barnstable) as Massasoit held a 2-0 lead at the break.

Following intermission, Massasoit did not give an inch to the visiting Knights as Brockton freshman Junior Pereira tapped in a saved shot off the foot of Charlie Swann to go up 3-0.

Zaffonato and Brendan Morey (Plymouth) tacked on goals in the 51st and 90th minute to round out the scoring for the Warriors.

In net, Massasoit received a stellar performance from keeper David Isaac. The Brockton native made four saves on his way to the shutout.

Massasoit is off until Saturday when they take a road trip to Southern Maine CC at 3 PM.
