Massasoit Motors Past MassBay, 9-0

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Freshman Charlie Swann (England) scored a hat trick in the first 16 minutes of action as the Massasoit men's soccer team cruised past MassBay, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Massasoit improved to 9-5 on the season with the victory. MassBay drops to 2-8.

Swann scored the Warriors first three goals, striking in the third, 14th and 16th minutes of action to give Massasoit an early and commanding 3-0 lead. The freshman was set up by Ruben Almeida (Pawtucket, R.I.), Sergio Lobo (Brockton) and Jovane Lopes (Brockton).

To round out the first half, both Lopes and Olrtich Henry (Providence, R.I.) netted goals, giving the Warriors a 5-0 lead at intermission.

Massasoit tacked on four more goals in the second half to round out the scoring spree.

Goalies Ollie Dagraca (Brockton) and Wilson Fernandes (Cape Verde) combined for the shutout.

The Warriors play their final regular season game on Saturday at 1PM against rival CCRI. If Massasoit earns a victory against the Knights, it will claim the Region 21 Championship and advance to the Northeast District Tournament. If CCRI earns a victory, it would force a winner-take-all third match on Tuesday, Oct. 31, with a location yet to be determined.
